Moong Dal Idli
Soft steamed idlis from a pure moong dal batter. No rice, gluten free, almost no fat, and 18 g of protein a plate.

Ingredients
- •1 cup yellow moong dal, soaked 4 hours
- •1/2 inch ginger, 1 green chilli
- •1/2 tsp eno fruit salt (just before steaming)
- •Salt; curry leaves and mustard seeds for a light tempering (optional)
- •Mint or coconut chutney to serve
Method
- 1.Blend the soaked dal with ginger, chilli, salt, and just enough water into a thick idli batter.
- 2.Stir in the eno right before steaming, pour into greased idli moulds.
- 3.Steam 10 to 12 minutes until a knife comes out clean.
- 4.Serve hot with chutney. A light tadka on top if you like.
Coach’s note
Rice idli is mostly carbs; a pure dal idli flips the ratio. Same texture, double the protein, and naturally gluten free.
