Ten vegetarian lunch boxes that hit 20 g of protein or more
By Shwetang Chikankar · 3 October 2026 · 6 min read
Open most office lunch boxes and you find the same thing: two or three rotis, one sabzi, maybe some rice. It is honest home food, and it usually carries 10 to 15 g of protein. By 4pm you are hunting for biscuits, and the evening craving is already loaded.
The fix is not a fancy diet tiffin. It is building the box around one protein source first, then adding the carbs. Here are ten I give clients, all vegetarian, all from our recipe library with the numbers worked out from the ingredients.
What makes a tiffin work
- •It travels. No gravy that leaks, nothing that goes soggy by lunchtime.
- •It tastes fine at room temperature, because the office microwave queue is not a plan.
- •It has at least 20 g of protein, so it actually holds you until evening.
Ten high-protein tiffins
- •[Paneer frankie roll](/recipes/paneer-frankie-roll): about 525 kcal and 33 g protein. Wrap it tightly in foil and it holds together all morning.
- •[Tofu veggie wrap](/recipes/tofu-veggie-wrap): about 440 kcal and 34 g protein.
- •[Soya rajma rice bowl](/recipes/soya-rajma-rice): about 520 kcal and 32 g protein. Keep the gravy thick so it does not leak.
- •[Grilled paneer sandwich](/recipes/grilled-paneer-sandwich): about 500 kcal and 30 g protein. Let it cool before closing the box or it goes soft.
- •[Sprouts and paneer salad bowl](/recipes/sprouts-paneer-salad-bowl): about 490 kcal and 29 g protein. Pack the lemon and salt separately.
- •[Hummus paneer power bowl](/recipes/hummus-paneer-bowl): about 475 kcal and 29 g protein.
- •[Paneer bhurji wrap](/recipes/paneer-bhurji-wrap): about 420 kcal and 28 g protein.
- •[Tofu and chickpea bowl](/recipes/tofu-chickpea-bowl): about 430 kcal and 24 g protein.
- •[Soya chunk pulao](/recipes/soya-chunk-pulao): about 440 kcal and 22 g protein. One pot on Sunday covers two lunches.
- •[Protein curd rice](/recipes/protein-curd-rice): about 510 kcal and 21 g protein. Cooling, and it is meant to be eaten cold.
If your family tiffin is non-negotiable, keep it and add one thing: a box of paneer chaat, a cup of hung curd, or a handful of roasted soya. That alone takes a 12 g lunch past 25 g.
Make Sunday do the work
Cook one batch item on Sunday, like soya pulao or a rajma base, and prep two fillings, like paneer bhurji and a sprouts mix. With rotis made fresh each morning, that covers five different lunches in about ten minutes a day. The full routine is in vegetarian meal prep for a busy week.
Common questions
What can I pack for a high-protein vegetarian lunch?
Build the box around one protein source: paneer, tofu, soya chunks, sprouts or a thick rajma or chana. Paneer or tofu wraps, soya pulao, a sprouts and paneer salad, or a paneer sandwich all reach 20 to 34 g of protein.
How much protein should my lunch have?
Around 25 to 40 g for most people trying to lose fat with strength training. That usually means one proper protein source in the box, not just dal, rice and roti.
How do I keep a paneer tiffin from going hard?
Do not overcook it, add it to the gravy or wrap at the end, and let the box cool slightly before closing it. Low-fat paneer firms up faster, so a splash of milk or curd in the bhurji keeps it soft.
Can I lose weight eating home tiffin food?
Yes. Home food is usually a good base. Most tiffins just need more protein and a fixed number of rotis. Adding paneer, curd or soya to what you already eat is often enough.

How Much Protein Per Meal? Why Spreading It Out Matters
Most vegetarian diets have almost no protein until dinner, then a big dal and paneer meal. The total might look fine on paper. The distribution is what is holding back muscle, fullness and fat loss.
